The Most Important Book, Wednesday in the Word

At a writing class I recently attended, one of the writing prompts was to think about an important relationship that I have with print, specifically the relationship that I have with an important  book.  There were many books that flashed through my mind.  Being an avid reader, I've had meaningful, though usually fleeting, relationships with many books throughout my lifetime, quite a few of which we'd discussed that day.  But when it came to a relationship that I have with an important book, and one that continues to impact my life, I had to say "The Bible".

The most important book in my life absolutely has to be the Bible.  It is the first thing that I read when I get up in the morning, and I use God's wisdom from those pages to direct my entire day.

Now, I am a human being, fallible and imperfect, and there are days that I don't put Christ first.  There are days that I don't open my Bible when I get up in the morning.  And let me tell you, it is very evident.    There is a difference in the way that I live my life.  There is a difference in the way that I treat people, the love that I show for others, the closeness I have with my husband, the patience and tenderness I have for my children.  Each of those things, as well as my own state of mind, depend on whether or not I've spent time in God's word that morning, reading and reflecting on His instruction and insight.  I have actually had my husband put his arm around me on days like that and say "Did you forget something this morning?"  It is such an obvious thing when I don't spend time in God's word!

Scripture tells us time and time again that we need to seek God, and that time with Him is important.  What I know, is that if I don't begin my morning with time in God's word, then I might as well go back to bed, because I'm sure not ready to face my day.
